Company Profile
The business was started by Simon Clarke, a Chartered Civil/Structural Engineer who has over 30 years industry experience in the planning, design, management and construction of complex, multi-discipline major engineering projects. Simon has gained experience in a number of markets throughout his career including Building Structures & Infrastructure, Heavy & Light Industrial and Commercial Projects, Healthcare, Education, Urban Development, Water Treatment & Supply, Nuclear New Build/Decommissioning/Life Extension, Defence, Energy/Power/Renewables and Marine Structures.

Prior to launching Structural Surveys UK, Simon was engaged by EDF Energy acting as the Subject Matter Expert (civil and structural engineering design and construction topic) for one of the largest infrastructure projects in Europe, the £25B New Nuclear Power Station at Hinkley Point C in Somerset. This complex project required specialist knowledge of buildings and structures designed to withstand seismic/earthquake forces. Working alongside international consultants and construction contractors, Simon’s experience was instrumental in achieving a UK compliant design and overseeing the construction phase on behalf of the client, EDF.

Other key civil engineering projects which Simon has delivered include the £1B upgrades to the MoD’s Navel Base at Devonport Dockyard in Plymouth and Clyde sites, decommissioning and life extension works for the UK’s fleet of existing nuclear power stations, the design and construction of a new airport terminal building In Guernsey, a new waste water treatment plant in Hull for Yorkshire Water, a large industrial building for British Steel in Port Talbot, a new steel plant in Indonesia, multi-storey office and commercial building in South Wales, together with a large scale highway/road scheme in Bahrain.
How we operate
We are a digital technology driven business and use in house developed bespoke software throughout our operations to maintain the efficiency and quality of our work. Our ‘Struct-Report’ digital tablet technology allows our engineers to produce on site reports live during the inspection to accurately identify & diagnose structural defects, recommend remedial repair works and whether any further intrusive inspection, structure monitoring or material testing is needed.

Working in collaboration with our software partners, our engineers drive innovation and implement new software tools to enhance the efficiency of our operations.
